The Mediterranean mussel is named after the Mediterranean region from which it is endemic, and the Pacific Northwest's maze of bays, straights, sounds, passages, canals, beaches, and inlets make this cold-water environment an ideal location for this species to grow quickly and easily. Most of the Med mussels for US distribution are coming from the PNW and BC, Canada. They are rope grown, and hence free of sand and grit; the cold powerful tidal currents of the Puget Sound and the Straights of Georgia provide a bounty of nourishment for the Med mussels and it is noticed in its ocean-fresh finish, slightly briny flavor, and plump form. Our facility is located in Seattle, WA which gives us the opportunity to buy locally which shortens the overall time-out-of-water for the mussel in transit.
